Nicole and Jimmy Audette

After completing their reading screening, we were confident that Jimmy was a strong fit for Great Leaps. This was our first year operating our tutoring business; however and Nicole really took a leap of faith on us based on our 25-year track record as a reading intervention in public schools. Jimmy has struggled with dyslexia for his entire life and his mom, Nicole, wanted to invest in helping him catch up before academic demands increased even further in high school. They enrolled at the end of the year in 2020 and that was the first step to making Great Leaps!

Great Leaps Reading Growth

Jimmy's Reading Growth

Jimmy placed at the 4th grade instructional reading level while in the 8th grade. His instructional level began at 127 words per minute with 0 errors. This told us he was accurate, but needed assistance in reading speed and fluency. Oftentimes the lack of fluency can come from a fear of making errors and a lack of confidence in reading aloud.

Surpassing Goals

We LOVE Data

Within the first two months, daily performance data allow Great Leaps to understand your child's learning rate and performance patterns. Jimmy and Nicole were able to see and track his progress along the way which became one of the main motivating factors for Jimmy. That is a huge breakthrough for a struggling reader! It didn't take external rewards or positive reinforcement from his mom Nicole, to get motivated but his own growth. Success breeds success!

It's More Than Just Reading!

In one of the last check-ins with Nicole, she told us a story of how Jimmy's whole perspective on education changed with Great Leaps. For the first time, Jimmy told his mom that he wanted to learn something new! He was motivated to learn Spanish! He expressed to Nicole that he realized he could learn anything by working for 15 minutes a day, AND HE'S RIGHT! Beyond just reading, Jimmy learned what he's capable of if he applies himself each day. That confidence, and self-assurance, along with his rock-solid foundation in reading put Jimmy in a great position to tackle high school head-on!
